The email was simple.... "I'd like to propose to my girlfriend while hiking in the Quirang. Can you be hiding and capture the moment?"
The planning and execution? Not so much! Add into the fact that he was in Chicago, and picking his ideal proposal location from grid references on Google Maps, and you have a perfect (but exciting!) storm of chance and what-ifs.
Suffice it to say that things didn't go exactly as expected... not only she not want to walk in the direction he had planned, the airline had lost their bags on the flight over, and the only replacement clothes they could find in Portree were kilts! However, after much desperate hand-gesturing from afar, and my Olympic-style sprint over the side of the mountain, I succeeded in photographing The Proposal from a hiding place!
How excited I was when I got to finally step out and meet my happy couple for the first time! We proceeded with an engagement shoot then and there, in the stunning surroundings of the Trotternish Ridge (once I finally caught my breath!) and this series of photographs never fails to make me grin. The best-laid plans, indeed!
